Week 6

We had another great class.  The students learned about the effects of spinning and why it makes you feel dizzy, as well as the need for concentration when you perform a different task with each hand at the same time. They enjoyed using what they have learned in Art to draw a final picture.  They were very comfortable giving their presentations. We played Jeopardy for review and it was a hit.  You are doing a great job reviewing the subject facts.

Presentations for Week 7 - (1-3 min) Humorous Story, Joke or Poem.  We will be working on Expression.

Please check the Presentation Schedule to the left.  Our class follows the guidelines for the Older Students. There are links available for ideas for Week 7 Humorous. Not all material is appropriate, please use your judgement.

Bring to class next week:
Tin Whistle
Crayola 64/96 pack (only if you have one at home)

Looking Ahead

We will be using our Tin Whistles in week 7. Please bring your Tin Whistles to class this week so I can see that everyone has theirs.  Also we'll be coloring our body parts in Science the next several weeks, so if anyone has an extra Crayola 64 or 96 color set please bring them so we'll have plenty of crayons to go around.  We will be using specific colors. Thanks so much!

Week 5

We learned not everyone (the Tutor) remembers how to play hopscotch.  Your students were brave enough to try lime juice as we experienced the sense of Taste.  Our science experiment revealed we do not feel the same on our arms as on our fingertips.  The students are getting comfortable with each other, and they make a wonderful group.  Their participation is fantastic.  We are all enjoying ourselves.

Class Pictures & Presentations

Hope you are all enjoying the week off.  We are taking individual and class pictures next Tues. on the 20th.  Please arrive by 8:45 and meet between the two buildings by the picnic tables.

I am aware that the speeches for the week of September 27th could be long.   You may take an excerpt of the speech.  Make sure it is at least a minute long, but less than three minutes. Also make sure it is a natural ending to the topic. Don't leave your audience hanging. Be ready to present your short biography on the 20th and bring your speech to class on the 27th.  Try to memorize it or use note cards.

Week 4

We had lots of fun in class.  The students learned about lung capacity with our Science experiment and how to draw abstract art.  We played Human Tic-Tac-Toe which they all thoroughly enjoyed.  Latin is in the lead as the least mastered subject followed by Science.  We are having a great time.     Reminder:  We have off next week.

Presentations - Biography of an American Patriot.  This is a two-week project.  First choose a famous speech given by an American Patriot to be given in Week 6.  Then for next week (Week 5) write a short biography of the patriot who gave the speech.
See you on the 20th!

Week 3

The Students are having a great time.  I am impressed with how much they are remembering from each week; you are doing a great job reviewing with them.  Thank you to all the parents for your help in class today.  The presentations went well today.  All of the students were prepared and worked hard to make eye contact.  I need to make a correction pertaining to the Math portion of our class.  As we only have two students who are ten, we will focus mostly on skip counting and introduce multiplication in our review time.  Any student who is ten or older trying for Memory Master is required to recite the multiplication tables.  Students younger than ten can skip count.  Sorry if this has caused any confusion.

Presentations for next week - Memorize and recite a Bible passage and tell why it is meaningful.  We will be working on the skill of Volume.

Have a Blessed week!

WEEK 2

We had a great class.  It really shows that you have been reviewing the memory work.  The students did well on their presentations.  Family Vacation is our topic for next week.  Students may bring in a picture, souvenir, or something they made while on vacation.  The presentation schedule is located to the left of this post for your convenience.  Please note the topic as well as the skill that we will be working on.
As Journeyman, we will no longer be skip counting, but reciting our times tables each week.
I will be sending an e-mail of the History Timeline Story as requested by several parents and the Science Lab sheets as they were damaged.  We will record as much of the science experiment as time allows in class.
We are scheduled for a class picture on Sept. 20, more details soon.

WOW!

That was fun.  I hope your children had as much fun as I did.  We were all a little nervous but, everyone was more relaxed by the end of the class.   I want to thank the parents that were in the class for all their help and support.  Have fun reviewing this week.

The presentation for next week:  Narrate or act out a favorite Bible story using pictures or props.  A link to the presentation schedule is located to the left under documents.

Let the Fun Begin!

Welcome, to all of my parents and students.  I am so excited to be on this journey with you.  Although this is my first year as a CC tutor, I have been homeschooling for 17 years.  I began this adventure when my son was 5 and second daughter was entering high school.   I cherish those years we shared learning together.

I am happily married to Nelson.  We share the joy of parenting four children and eight grandchildren.  Angelle(35) and Danielle(32) are married, Nick(23) is currently pursuing a Master in History and Michelle (12) will be in the Foundations Master class and Essentials class.

As part of the Foundations experience, the children are able to make weekly presentations to the class. This gives everyone the opportunity to speak in front of a group and become an active listener too. The audience will learn to respond positively to the speaker, and I will also give each speaker an assessment, so they can continue to grow during the year. We will go over the guidelines together on the first day and a list of suggested topics will be provided along with a schedule. The students will present every other week in class sometimes, so that this does not become a burden at home every week. But truly, I think this will become a highlight of the class for students. If your child is presently not strong in this area, please don’t fret. I will help each student along, and make it a good experience for all.

I am praying for each student and family as I prepare for this year.  I am looking forward to sharing in the joy of learning with you and your children.
